MiNDS hosts our 4th Annual MLK Jr. Day of Service – 2016

January 11, 2016

Buena Park, CA, —

MiNDS is honored to host its 4th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 on the campuses of Giving Children Hope in Buena Park.

Services offered will include enrollment in health insurance through Covered California, distribution of toys, books collected by Fullerton Public Library, clothes, nutritional food items collected with assistance from Buena Park Police Department and medical services with the help of St. Jude Hospital subsidiaries including health and vision screening, education and counseling and providing follow up clinic appointments and enrollments for mammogams.

Spearheaded by MiNDS and hosted/co-sponsored by Giving Children Hope, a local and international non-profit that provides aid abroad and social services to Orange County families, the Day of Service is collaboration between various faith groups and social service organization, including Uplift Charity, Outreach Nation, CAPOC, YWCA North OC.

“For me the MLK day has become more than just a day of service or a track to inspire volunteerism. It has become a response and a struggle to retain all that is good in our society and a fight against the marginalization of all people”, said Qazi, co-Founder and President of MiNDS who has been organizing such events for the last five years.

Last year, the MiNDS Day of Service was the largest Martin Luther King Day of Service in Orange County with more than 500 families and individuals in need receiving service.

Amongst the various public officials and civic leaders who’d address the 30 plus volunteers, Joseph Jackson Jr., a civil rights era icon will be present. He was born on April 14, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee and was a formidable figure in student desegregation movement.
