MiNDS hosts our 3rd Annual MLK Jr. Day of Service – 2015

January 17, 2015

Buena Park, CA

This past weekend brought a renewed sense of energy and purpose amongst participants of this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service drive that took place at Giving Children Hope’s Buena Park site on Saturday, January 17th.

MiNDS and partner organizations gathered to gauge and serve the needs of the surrounding community in what was the largest MLK Day of Service humanitarian drive in Orange County this year!

In an effort to involve the local community, MiNDS worked with Giving Children Hope, Buena Park PD, Placentia PD, Fullerton PD, Fullerton Public Library, Placentia Public Library, Yorba Linda Public Library, Buena Park Civic Center, Uplift Charity, Outreach Nation, Al Shifa Clinic, Wilshire Ave Community Church, and Coast to Coast Foundation.

Over 500 individuals of all ages attended the event, stopping at all 14 stations. About 50 volunteers were present during the four-hour event. Dr. Taif Kaissi, President of MiNDS addressed the volunteers, “In the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy, today we are to serve our guests with utmost dignity and respect, with a smile on our faces, and provide them with the best experience possible!”

Attendees were served breakfast and lunch.

Officer Denny Bak from Fullerton PD stopped by to show support, handing out police badge stickers to children and helping out where needed. When speaking with Projects Manager and event organizer Yara Almouradi, Officer Bak said, “It’s great seeing events like this in the community! I would love to come out to any other events you do! This is a great service.”

Ruth, one of the event volunteers stated, “this event is an amazing effort, with all the attendees leaving with big smiles on their faces”.

Representative Loretta Sanchez’s office awarded certificates of recognition to Giving Children Hope, Uplift Charity and MiNDS along with all other volunteering organizations.
